Shihadeh, Ceglarski lead No. 8 Gettysburg past Muhlenberg, 17-8

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) and Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/ Darien) each scored four goals and added three assists as No. 8 Gettysburg defeated Muhlenberg 17-8 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
 
The Bullets (5-0) opened the season on a five-game winning streak for the first time since the 2004 campaign while Muhlenberg (4-1) lost its first game of the year.
 
Ceglarski scored four goals for the second consecutive game and seven points marked a career-high for Shihadeh.
 
The Mules jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Steph Light and Kate Noone. In less than two minutes, Gettysburg took the lead 3-2. Megan Moore (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School) found the cage on a free position shot and Ceglarski followed with her first tally of the day. Twenty-three seconds later, Shihadeh netted her first goal of the game at 6:21 in the first half.
 
Muhlenberg scored the next two goals and reclaimed the lead, 4-3, on Courtney Tapkas' goal. However, Ceglarski found the cage for the second time on an unassisted strike that knotted the game at four just seventeen seconds after Tapkas' tally.
 
Shihadeh netted a goal with 16:36 left in the half which gave Gettysburg the lead for good. The Bullets outscored the Mules 12-3 in the final 46:36 of the game.

The Bullets scored six more goals in the first half to take a 10-5 lead into the locker room. Jamie Giffuni (St. James, NY/Smithtown), Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place), and Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) each netted one of their two goals during the half-closing run.
 
Muhlenberg scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half, but each one of those markers was quickly answered by the Bullets. Gettysburg then held the Mules scoreless for the final 19:13 of the game to claim a 17-8 victory.

Leading the Bullets' defense was Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) who made nine saves in goal. She also tied teammate Jamie Heeneke (Pennsauken, NJ/Moorestown) with a team-high four groundballs.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at home against Messiah. Game time is 7 p.m.
