GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jared Harriman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) netted four goals and added two assists to lead No.5 Gettysburg to a 17-2 victory over No.17 Washington & Lee in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Harriman found the back of the net three times in the first half and once in the fourth quarter to help the Bullets (1-0) stifle the Generals' (1-1) attack and avenge last year's 9-8 loss in Lexington.
Preseason first-team All-American Chase Stewart (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) collected a hat trick for the Bullets and Greg Montgomery (Asheville, NC St. Andrew's School [DE]) recorded three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in the win.
Set up by Montgomery, Harriman scored the first goal of the game 4:29 into the first quarter. Kevin Freehill (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) tallied an unassisted goal later in the quarter to give Gettysburg a 2-0 lead at the end of the first stanza.
Gettysburg would get goals from Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Harriman before Washington & Lee got on the board with a score by Grant Martin with 12:37 left in the second quarter.
The Bullets would close the half by scoring five goals to take a 9-1 lead into the locker room.
Gettysburg picked up where they left off in the second half by scoring three times to open the third quarter with Andrew Mavraganis (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield), Brian Pryor (Dallas, TX/St. Mark's) and Stewart finding the net.
Matt Arcati would score the Generals' second goal with 3:47 left in the third, but the Bullets would score five more times before the final whistle sounded. Freshman Zach Pucci (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) scored twice in the fourth quarter to net his first collegiate goals.
Gettysburg outshot Washington & Lee 46-23 and took advantage of 4-of-5 extra-man opportunities.
Chris Lalli recorded a game-high nine saves for the Generals while Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola) recorded five stops for the Bullets
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home against Denison. Game time is 1 p.m.
