Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Jeff James hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth in the nightcap of a doubleheader to lift No. 21 Mary Washington to the second half of a sweep against Gettysburg in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.

The Eagles (7-1) won their fifth and sixth straight games by shutting out the Bullets (0-2) 5-0 in game one and then coming back from a two-run deficit to win the second game 3-2 in extra innings.

Kevin Foeman pitched a complete game shutout in game one. He stuck out five batters and surrendered five hits to the Bullets. Tobin Whitman (Lyme Center, NH/Hanover) pitched six innings for the Bullets and gave up only two earned runs in the loss.

Mary Washington got on the board in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Eric Fitzgerald. The Eagles would tack on three more runs in the fourth and add one more in the fifth when Brandon Cole scored on a sacrifice fly.

Jimmy McNamara (Webster, NY/Webster) went 2-for-2 in game one with two singles and a walk for the Bullets.

Gettysburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game two. Brian Pernice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) plated Sean McGee (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) with an RBI single to right in the first. In the second inning, Mike Donohue (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) scored on a sacrifice fly to extend the Bullets' lead.

Starting pitcher Brian Spicer (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) cruised through five innings scattering only three Eagles' hits. However, Cole would cross the plate on an error in the fifth to put Mary Washington on the board.

Spicer walked two batters to open the sixth inning and then Lee Rubin's double scored Mike O'Donnell to knot the game at 2.

Spicer was replaced by Christian Force (Shippensburg, PA/Berwick) who pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball until James singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth.

Seth Kaas picked up the win for the Eagles in relief.

The Bullets' McGee, Donohue, and Joe Bonyai (Torrington, CT/Hotchkiss School) had two hits apiece in the nightcap.

Gettysburg returns to action on Sunday for a doubleheader at St. Mary's. Game one starts at 11 a.m.
