GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore attacker Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston) scored a career-high six goals, including the first three of the game, to pace No. 5 Gettysburg to a 12-5 win over Rowan in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Clark Field. Browning had her first career hat trick just 7:46 into the first half and netted her first career game-winning goal in the 10th minute of the second half.
Bullets' junior attacker Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) added two goals in the game's final 12 minutes, helping Gettysburg (2-0) break open a close game. The home squad scored six of the last seven goals in the contest. Ewing also had an assist in the game for a three-point day. Rowan (2-1) junior attacker Katie Klein scored her second goal of the afternoon with 5:30 left, ending a run of four straight scores by Gettysburg.
The Bullets scored the game's first four goals on Browning's hat trick and an unassisted tally by junior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) at the 12:38 mark. Six minutes later, Profs' junior defenseman Shana Smeriglio scored on a free-position shot, cutting the Bullets' lead to 4-1. Browning got the lead back to four on her own free-position goal, giving Gettysburg a 5-1 advantage heading into halftime. Browning's six goals are the most scored by a Bullet since Kathy Delauney '05 scored eight times in a 24-11 win over Ursinus on May 1, 2004.
Klein, freshman attacker Amanda Silvesti and freshman midfielder Lauren Crennan combined to give Rowan three of the first four goals in the second half and pull the Profs within two at 6-4, but the Bullets put the game out of reach with four goals in a span of 5:33. Sophomore midfielder Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien), sophomore attacker Megan Moore (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School), Browning and Ewing all contributed in the outburst.
Gettysburg returns to action on Monday against Denison in Palm Beach, Fla. Game time is 9 a.m.
