CARLISLE, Pa. – Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) scored three goals and added two assists to lead No. 3 Gettysburg past No. 16 Dickinson 13-9 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.
With the victory, Gettysburg (12-0, 6-0 CC) has beaten its fourth ranked opponent in the last six games. The Bullets also extended their program-record season-opening win streak to 12 and have tied the program record of 12 consecutive victories set by the 2000 squad. The Red Devils lost their second game of the season and drop to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the CC.
Dickinson jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead just five minutes into the game. Lizzie Cone, Lesley Oot and Amy Jennings scored for the Red Devils.
The Bullets cut the lead to 3-2 on goals by Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston) and Katie Hagan (Media, PA/Cardinal O'Hara). Both teams traded goals twice before Megan Moore (Chestertown, MD/Gunston Day School) tallied an unassisted goal with two seconds left in the half to knot the game at 5-5.
Gettysburg rallied to score the first four goals of the second half in the span of 4:45, and the Bullets would not trail the rest of the game. Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) netted a free position goal to start the four-goal run. Kelly, Hagan and Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien) each scored their second goal of the game as Gettysburg stretched its lead to 9-5.
The Red Devils cut the lead to 10-8 on a strike by Jena Boccetti with 9:40 to play after Cone netted her third goal of the day. However, three consecutive goals thwarted Dickinson's comeback attempt. Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest), Kelly and Sam Pyzik (Westminster, MD/Mercy) each netted a goal in the final minutes of the game to preserve the Bullets' 13-9 win.
Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) made eight saves in goal for the Bullets while Dickinson goalkeeper Gabby Joffie stopped 14 shots.
The Red Devils scored on 3-of-4 free position attempts while Gettysburg took advantage of 2-of-6 free position opportunities.
Gettysburg returns to action at home on Saturday against Bryn Mawr. Game time is 1 p.m.
