GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Chris Renzi (Fairport, NY/Fairport) won a career-high 16 faceoffs, scooped a career-high 15 groundballs and scored two goals to lead No. 3 Gettysburg past McDaniel 19-4 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (11-1, 5-0 CC) remained undefeated in conference play while the Green Terror drops to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the CC.
Renzi won 16-of-19 faceoffs, recorded double-digit groundballs for the third consecutive game and was one of 13 Bullets to score a goal in the victory. Jared Harriman (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) tallied a hat trick and netted the 50th goal of his career. Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield), Trip Dyer (Ocean View, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]) and Kevin Freehill (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each scored twice and added two assists to key the Bullets' offense.
Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola) made three saves in goal, lowered his nation's best goals against average to 4.65 and won the 40th game of his career.
Ted Leonard (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) scored the first goal of the game on an assist from Gallant just 1:30 into the first quarter. Harriman tallied his first goal of the game, and Freehill scored the first of the Bullets' four man-up goals on the afternoon to give Gettysburg a 3-0 lead. Freehill's tally was assisted by the first of three assists by Greg Montgomery (Asheville, NC/St. Andrew's School [DE]).
Brad Baer netted an unassisted strike to close the gap to 3-1, but Gettysburg followed with a 6-0 run to take a commanding lead. Harriman and Dyer each scored two goals during the run.
After McDaniel's Matthew Buschman scored the first of his two goals, the Bullets closed the first half with goals by Renzi and T.J. Liberto (Arnold, MD/St. Mary's). Gettysburg held an 11-2 advantage heading to the locker room.
The second half saw Gettysburg outscore the Green Terror 8-2 en route to the 19-4 victory. Highlights of the period included Brian Pryor (Dallas, TX/St. Mark's) extending his consecutive-games point streak to 20 games with a goal in the third quarter, and Rob Triplett (McLean, VA/McLean) netting his first collegiate goal.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home for a senior-day contest against Haverford. Game time is 5:15 p.m.
