Gettysburg loses a pair to McDaniel

Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Diana Rosemier scored a pair of runs and went 2-for-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader to lead McDaniel to a sweep of Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Tuesday.

McDaniel (20-18, 7-7 CC) won game one 2-1, and the Green Terror was victorious in the nightcap, 2-0. With the wins, the McDaniel moved ahead of Gettysburg (21-12, 5-7 CC) into fifth place in the CC standings.

In game one, Rosemier crossed the plate in the first to give the Green Terror a 1-0 lead. She lead off the inning with a double, and Emily Trainor hit a two-out single into left field to score Rosemier.

A similar pattern happened in the third inning as McDaniel took a 2-0 lead. Rosemier led off the inning with a triple, and Trainor drove her home with a two-out single.

The Bullets had a scoring chance in the fourth with runners on first and third. Tayler Cianciotta (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) grounded to the pitcher, but Katie Eiden (Silver Springs, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) was nailed at the plate to end the rally. The Bullets did manage a run in the fifth when Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) singled home Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park).

However, Nichol Moeller had an excellent game on the mound as she sent the first ten Bullets she faced to the bench en route to the win. She gave up five hits, struck out a pair and surrendered an unearned run in the victory.

In game two, Jess Smith allowed only four hits in seven innings of work for a complete-game shutout. One run in both the fourth and fifth innings proved to be all the offense she would need for the victory.

In the fourth, Whitney Williams reached on a one-out walk, and Brittany King plated Williams with a single. Trainor knocked a two-out fifth-inning single into the left-center gap. Megan Mitchell then doubled home Trainor to set the game's final 2-0 score.

Erin Ober (Lutherville, MD/Dulaney) went 3-for-5 on the day for the Bullets, and both Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) pitched well, but picked up the game one and two losses, respectively.

Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday for a doubleheader at home against Ursinus. Game one starts at 3:30 p.m.
