Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) threw 12.2 scoreless innings, including an eight-inning complete-game shutout in the first game of a doubleheader against Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Thrusday.

The Bullets won game one 1-0 in eight innings while Ursinus prevailed 4-3 in the nightcap. Gettysburg (22-13, 6-8 CC) broke a four-game losing streak with the game one win. The Bears (26-6, 11-3 CC) fall one game behind Haverford in the conference standings, thus the Fords can clinch the CC regular season title with a sweep of Muhlenberg on Saturday.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Erin Ober (Lutherville, MD/Dulaney) drilled a triple over the head and just of the reach of the left fielder. Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) followed with a walk. A pop-up to the second baseman brought Abbe Miller (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) to the plate with two outs and runners on first and third. Miller lined a ball up the middle into center field for the game winner as Ober crossed the plate.

Kiry threw a complete-game shutout and picked up her conference-leading 13th win of the season. She scattered six hits and struck out five batters in the victory. Almost as impressive Kiry was Ursinus pitcher Mallory Greene. She fanned five batters in 7.2 innings and only gave up one run, the game winner.

Both teams started hot at the plate in game two. In the first, Marci Logan singled and later scored on an RBI base hit by Mary Reid to give Ursinus a 1-0 lead. The Bears added to their lead in the second when Liz Carino crossed the plate on a single to right field by Kaitlyn Sutherland.

Gettysburg rallied in the bottom of the second to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead. The Bullets used five singles and a sacrifice bunt to plate three runners. Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, NJ/Whippany Park), Tayler Cianciotta (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) crossed the plate for the Bullets.

Ursinus tagged Gettysburg starter Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) for two runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Back-to-back doubles by Sarah Hennessey and Liz Carino started the rally. Hennessey scored on Carino's drive to right center field, and Carino later scored on an infield fly. Kiry came in to finish the inning and proceeded to hold the Bears scoreless for the final 4.2 innings.

However, Ursinus pitcher Lindsay Schmidt held the Bullets scoreless after their second-inning rally to improve her record to 12-0. Greene pitched the scoreless seventh inning to preserve the win.

Carino went 4-for-4 in the second game while Ober led the Bullets offense by going 3-for-8 on the day.

Gettysburg returns to action at home on Saturday for a doubleheader against Washington (Md.). Game one starts at 1 p.m.
