LANCASTER, Pa. – Senior attacker Brian Pryor (Dallas, TX/St. Mark's) scored four times to lead No. 2 Gettysburg to a 14-3 win over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday. The win gives the Bullets their 21st consecutive conference win and closes out their second straight perfect CC slate.
The Bullets (14-1, 8-0 CC) scored the game's first five goals, including two by Pryor. He opened the scoring with 10:24 to play in the first quarter, and junior midfielder Ted Leonard (Wallingford, PA/Strath Haven) extended the lead to 2-0 just nine seconds later. Pryor connected again a little over six minutes later, and sophomore attackman Trip Dyer (Ocean View, DE/Worcester Prep [MD]) tallied what would prove to the game-winning goal on a man-up opportunity with 2:24 showing on the clock.
Neither side scored again until Gettysburg senior midfielder Chris Renzi (Fairport, NY/Fairport) struck with 3:02 left before halftime, touching off a flurry of scoring. That was the first of six goals before the end of the half. The Diplomats (5-9, 1-7 CC) stopped the Bullets' run on a goal by Mark Hild with 1:56 to play. Dyer answered 21 seconds later, and senior attackman Evan Gallant (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) and Pryor scored 10 seconds apart. Sophomore midfielder Stu Whelehan (Perry Hall, MD/Loyola Blakefield) capped the wild stretch with a goal just two seconds before the half expired.
The pace was more subdued in the second half, as Gettysburg opened with a goal by junior midfielder Greg Montgomery (Asheville, NC/St. Andrew's School [DE]). Franklin & Marshall then sandwiched a pair of markers around a four-goal Gettysburg run over the last 16:51 of play to set the final score.
Gettysburg junior goalie Pat Vaughan (Cockeysville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) stopped a season-high 15 shots and allowed just two goals in 53 minutes before being lifted.
The Bullets return to action on Friday in the CC semifinals as the tournament's top seed with the time and opponent yet to be determined.
