CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Krissy Browning (Baldwin, MD/Fallston) tallied a career-high seven points (four goals, three assists) to lead No. 3 Gettysburg past Washington (Md.) 14-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
With the victory, Gettysburg (11-0, 5-0 CC) set a program record for consecutive wins to start the season, surpassing the record of 10 games set by the 2003 squad. The 2006 Bullets are now one game shy of tying the program record of 12 consecutive victories set in 2000. Washington's overall record drops to 6-8 and to 1-5 in the CC.
The Bullets scored the first nine goals of the game en route to an 11-2 halftime advantage. Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) took a pass from Katie Ceglarski (Darien, CT/Darien) to put Gettysburg on the scoreboard just 1:29 into the game.
Browning scored back-to-back goals, with one coming on the first of Kelly's three assists on the day, to give the Bullets a 3-0 lead.
Ceglarski scored two goals, Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, MD/Garrison Forest) netted two goals, Katie Hagan (Media, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) found the back of the cage once and Browning struck again during the game-opening 9-0 run. Ceglarski score the final goal of the run off a pass from Browning with 16:22 left in the first half.
Washington got back-to-back goals from Lauren Sampson and Erin Bollinger to cut the 9-2 before Gettysburg scored two more times, including Browning's fourth goal, to take an 11-2 lead into the locker room.
The Shorewomen scored four consecutive goals to start the second half, cutting the lead to 11-6. Suzie Jakub netted the first two goals of the period then Jenna Gouck and Sampson each found the back of the cage.
Two late goals by Jen Betts (Potomac, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) and another by Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) preserved Gettysburg's lead and the 14-7 win.
Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) played the first half in goal for the Bullets and made three saves. Susan Meyers (Ridgewood, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) made four saves in the second half. Mollie Binotto made 10 saves for the Shorewomen.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at Dickinson. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
