FROSTBURG, Md. - The Gettysburg (2-0) men's soccer team used two goals from Chris Bayon (Langhorne, Pa./Lawrenceville School [N.J.]) to top tournament-host Frostburg (1-1) 3-0 in the championship game of the Frostburg State Tournament on Saturday.
Bayon found the net for the first time in the 21st minute, capitalizing on a Bobcat mistake to the Bullets up by one.
Within five minutes of their first goal, the Bullets struck again. Geoff Menge (Doylestown Pa./Central Bucks West) crossed a ball from the left flank in to Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon). Tabor found himself open in front of the net and headed the ball past the Frostburg netminder, Derek Richardson. Menge's assist was his third in two career collegiate games.
Adam Finkel (Potomac Md./Winston Churchill) made a save on a Bobcat header with seconds left in the half to preserve the Bullets' two goal lead going into the intermission.
Coming out of the break, Gettysburg struck fast as Bayon scored his second goal of the game within a minute to give the Bullets a three-goal pad.
In the net, Finkel picked up his second shutout in as many games this season with the aid of his defensive unit.
Bayon, Garrrett Bruno (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.), and Pat Brown (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) were recognized for their outstanding play by being named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday as they take on Eastern University in their 2006 home-opener at Clark Field. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
