SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore guard Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) tied his career-high of 17 points to lead Gettysburg to a 52-49 victory over Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Thursday afternoon at Tarble Pavillion. The Bullets made 12-of-14 foul shots in the final seven minutes of the game to earn their second consecutive conference victory.

Senior center Brian Sateja (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton School) joined Dorsey in double-figures with 10 points. Gettysburg's (4-9, 2-5 CC) defense was keyed by 13 blocked shots and a 40-36 rebounding margin. Sophomore forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti [Md.]) and Dorsey each set career-highs in both blocks and rebounds. Spierenburg grabbed team-high eight rebounds and blocked six shots, while Dorsey had five swats and seven boards. Ian McCormick led Swarthmore (5-9, 2-5 CC) with a double-double of game-highs, 18 points and 12 rebounds.

After leading 22-17 at the break, Gettysburg increased its lead to 28-19 on a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) at 15:30. Over the next five minutes, Swarthmore went on a 13-4 run, keyed by six points from McCormick and five from Matt Kurman, to tie the game at 32-32.

In the final 10:54 of the game, there were six ties and two lead changes. Both teams traded baskets for several trips down the floor, and Dorsey hit a pair of free throws with 7:07 remaining to tie the game once more at 38-38. The Garnet promptly went on a run to take a 49-44 lead with 4:37 left on the clock. However, Gettysburg's defense held Swarthmore scoreless for the remainder of the game.

The Bullets only made two field goals in the final seven minutes of the contest, but kept the game close with hot-shooting from the charity stripe. The Bullets made six consecutive free throws to counter Swarthmore's five-point advantage. Dorsey and Spierenburg each hit a pair before senior forward Julius Redd (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) gave the Bullets their first lead since 10:54 in the half, 50-49, with 1:38 remaining.

After the Garnet failed to score on its next two possessions, Sateja made a layup off a feed from Dorsey with 24 ticks on the clock. The Bullets withstood two late 3-point attempts by Kurman to come away with a 52-49 win.

The Bullets made 18-of-22 free throws, while shooting 30.2 percent from the floor on the day.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home against Haverford for a Centennial Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
