ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Kris Kieres led four Blue Jays in double figures with 14 points as Elizabethtown defeated Gettysburg 70-64 in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Thompson Gymnasium. The Blue Jays held a two-point lead at halftime, extended it to 14 points midway through the second frame and held off a late 20-12 run by Gettysburg to earn the victory.

Senior center Brian Sateja (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton School) led the Bullets with a game-high 16 points. Sophomore guards Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) while Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) each tallied 13 points and classmate Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) scored a career-high 10 points for Gettysburg. Senior forward Julius Redd (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds in the loss.

Gettysburg shot 61.5 percent from the field in the first half, and the Bullets built their largest lead of the game, 15-10, at 12:16. Sateja made three layups during the early run. Elizabethtown kept the game close as there were five lead changes and two ties during the remainder of the first half. Capkin made a layup with 37 seconds remaining to take a 34-33 lead, but the Blue Jays hit 3-of-4 four shots in the final seconds to take a 36-34 advantage to the locker room.

Dorsey led Gettysburg with 12 first-half points and Keires led the Blue Jays with nine points in the first frame.

Elizabethtown opened the second half with the hot hand, going on a 22-10 run during the first nine minutes of the stanza. Chad Piersol made two 3-pointers, and Brian Goodwin added five points to help the Blue Jays take a 58-44 lead with 11:10 left on the clock.

Gettysburg clawed back into the game keyed by Capkin and Nevolo. Promptly going on a 11-2 run, Capkin made two shots, and Nevolo went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to lead the comeback. With 4:57 left on the clock, Goodwin made a layup to increase the lead to 64-55. However, a 3-pointer by Capkin and a layup by Nevolo cut the lead to 67-63 with 1:37 remaining.

Redd hit 1-of-2 attempts from the free-throw line to cut the lead to three points with 1:23 remaining, but Elizabethtown made three foul shots down the stretch to set the game's final margin at 70-64.

Piersol ended with 12 points, and Goodwin and Bryce Rodgers each tallied 11 points in the win.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home for a Centennial Conference matchup against Muhlenberg. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
