Susquehanna vs. Gettysburg Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior captain
Katie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) matched her career high with 18 points for the third time this season, but in the end, it was a school-record 11 3-pointers that lifted Susquehanna to a 60-46 victory against Gettysburg in the first round of the 17th Annual Days Inn Tournament on Wednesday night at Bream Gym.
Crusaders' (8-3) junior guard Ruth Williamson tied for the team high with three triples on her way to a team-high 13 points. She was joined in double-digit scoring by senior forward Jen Clark with 11 points and senior guard Crystal Schneck, who tallied 10. Junior forward Courtney Thibeault had four points to go along with a game-high five steals. She paced a 16-theft effort by Susquehanna that helped to force 34 Gettysburg turnovers.
For the Bullets (6-4), Reilly came up one rebound shy of her third double-double of the season, and she added a pair of blocks. Freshman guard
Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) added 12 points.
The Crusaders got out of the gates quickly with back-to-back treys by Williamson. Gettysburg cut the lead to four points on a jumper by freshman
Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and a Drechsler layup two minutes apart. A 3-pointer by Susquehanna freshman forward Samantha Jansson ended the mini-run, but the Bullets scored the next six points, capped by a Reilly jump shot at the 12:01 mark that gave Gettysburg its only lead of the game.
Two-and-a-half minutes later, Clark hit a layup, and Schneck drilled a 3-pointer in transition off a turnover. From that point, Susquehanna slowly built to a seven-point halftime advantage at 28-21.
The Crusaders opened the second half on a 7-0 run to take a 35-21 lead before Reilly made a pair of free throws at the 17:20 mark. The Bullets began to reel in Susquehanna, putting together an 18-8 run over the next 11 minutes. A free throw by freshman forward
Nicole Dobranski (Albertston, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) drew Gettysburg to within four points at 39-43.
Schneck and junior Val Houseal sandwiched 3-pointers around a Clark free throw to run the lead back to 11 points, and the Bullets could not get any closer than nine the rest of the way.
In the first game of the evening, four Alvernia players scored in double digits to lead the Crusaders (5-3) to a 64-55 victory against The College of New Jersey (5-6). Freshman guard Joanna Graber led all scorers with 14 points. Senior guard Kerry Higgs scored all 13 of her points on 16 attempts from the foul line. Lions' senior forward Breanne Depken posted a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double on the night.
The Crusaders outscored TCNJ 41-25 in the second half to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit and advance to the championship game, in which they will face Susquehanna on Thursday at 4 p.m. Gettysburg will play host to TCNJ in the consolation game at 2 p.m. in Bream Gym.
