GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Chris Pothering scored nine of his team-high 16 points in overtime to lead Muhlenberg to a 67-64 victory over Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday night at Bream Gymnasium. Battling to a 54-54 tie after regulation, Gettysburg and Muhlenberg played an exciting overtime period that featured four lead changes and one tie.

Sophomore forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti [Md.]) led Gettysburg (2-9, 0-5 CC) with a career-high 17 points and a game-high four blocks. Senior center Brian Sateja (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton School) added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Bullets. Sophomore guards Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) and Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) each tallied double-figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Jimmie Riggins led Muhlenberg (5-6, 4-1 CC) with a double-double comprised of a team-high 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Pothering hit a 3-pointer 49 seconds into overtime to give the Mules a 57-54 lead. Sateja then took Gettysburg on his back and scored seven consecutive points for the Bullets. He hit a layup at 3:42, went hard to the basket and converted a three-point play after being fouled and drove to the middle of the lane and hit a fade-away jumper. However, a jumper by Tom Scott and Pothering's second 3-pointer of the extra frame cut the score to 62-61 at 1:42.

The Bullets answered the next time down the floor with a 3-pointer by Capkin, but Pothering drilled another trey with 57 seconds left on the clock to give the Mules a 65-54 lead. Gettysburg missed its shot on the following possession and were forced to foul Chris Huber. Huber made both free throws in the double bonus to increase Muhlenberg's advantage to 67-64.

With a chance to put the game out of reach, Muhlenberg had two more foul shots with four seconds left on the clock, but missed them both. Gettysburg did not convert its final attempt to tie the game, and the Mules ended with a 67-64 win.

Gettysburg played a solid first half while shooting 55 percent from the floor. Capkin scored nine first-half points as the Bullets took a 30-24 lead into the locker room.

The Bullets extended their lead early in the second stanza when Dorsey hit a 3-pointer at 16:13. The 37-27 advantage was Gettysburg's largest of the game. Muhlenberg began to chip away at the lead. A trey by Pothering at 10:24 cut the lead to 43-39, and by 6:18, the lead was cut to 48-46 when Riggins converted a 3-point play.

Gettysburg extended its lead to 52-46 with 5:20 on the clock on a tip-in by Sateja. However, six consecutive points by the Mules led to the game's first tie at 3:13, 52-52. Chris MacIntosh gave Muhlenberg its first lead of the second half when he hit a jumper in the lane with 43 seconds left on the clock. The Bullets countered when sophomore guard Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) found Spierenburg streaking through the lane for a layup that tied and game and sent the match to overtime.

Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at Washington (Md.) for a Centennial Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
