Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – A jumper by Washington (Md.) senior LaToya Turner with two seconds left negated a career-high 24 points by Gettysburg senior Katie Reilly (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and gave the Shorewomen a 64-63 victory against the Bullets in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday afternoon at Cain Athletic Center.

Gettysburg (7-5, 4-2 CC), which fought back from as many as 11 down, got a layup by freshman guard Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) with 22 seconds to take its first lead in more than 22 minutes at 63-62. But after a missed free throw and a turnover by the Bullets, Washington (6-6, 1-5 CC) regained control and called a timeout with four seconds left to set up the play for Turner. The win gives the Shorewomen a four-game winning streak.

Reilly, who had equaled her career high with 18 point three times so far this season, made eight field goals and eight free throws and grabbed eight rebounds in the game. She scored 18 points in the second half alone to help erase a seven-point halftime deficit. She was joined in double figures by freshman forward Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls), who had 12 points and five rebounds.

Washington was led by 13 points from freshman guard Jane O'Donnell. Sophomore guard Brianne Slizofski kicked in a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double and added four assists.

Gettysburg scored the game's first six points on a pair of jumpers by Reilly and a layup by Fields. A 3-pointer by junior guard Elise Conway reined the Bullets in, but they would eventually stretch the lead back to five at 12-7 when Fields made two foul shots with 13:14 to go in the first half.

The two teams played it back and forth for the next 11 minutes. After two free throws by freshman forward Nicole Dobranski (Albertson, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) gave Gettysburg a 27-26 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the half, the Shorewomen closed the frame on a 10-2 run, capped by a Conway free throw with one second left.

After the break, Washington extended the lead to 10 points on six difference occasions and 11 points once. At the 5:22 mark, sophomore guard Christie Rogers nailed a 3-pointer to give the hosts a 59-49 cushion, but that is when Gettysburg began to chip away.

The Bullets missed a layup at the other end, but a Fields steal led to a Reilly layup. She added the free throw to complete the three-point play, and following a Washington turnover, she was fouled and hit two more from the line.

Shorewomen junior forward Brenda Lucas made a layup at the other end, but Gettysburg went on a 9-1 run that was snapped by Turner's game winner.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday when they come home to face Bryn Mawr in Centennial Conference action at Bream Gymnasium. The opening tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
