GETTYSBURG, Pa. – After playing ranked team after ranked team this season, the Gettysburg College women's soccer team welcomed Centennial Conference foe Washington (Md.) College to Clark Field on Saturday afternoon. The Bullets made the most out of their weaker foe, handing the Shorewomen a dominating 5-0 decision as part of Gettysburg's Homecoming Weekend.

Gettysburg (4-9-1, 3-3 CC) had no problem getting into an offensive groove against Washington (1-13, 0-6 CC) scoring the game's first goal within the opening 20 minutes. Sophomore Kelly Vigna (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) put the Bullets on the board at 19:34, taking a pass from the midfield by Shaina Wright (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and beating the charging goalie.

Leading 1-0 at the break, the hosts quickly added some insurance in the second half as Colleen Stuart (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe) connected on her team-leading third goal of the fall just 1:13 into the period. Wright picked up her second assist on the play after shooting the ball at the goal and having the saved shot carom right to Stuart.

Gettysburg tacked on three more goals over a 20-minute span in the second period, beginning with first-year Caitlin McCarthy's (Darnestown, Md./Holy Child) first career goal at 61:06. Another freshman got into the action just eight minutes later when Paige Gaeng (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson) knocked home her first career goal via a pass from fellow first-year Jordann Smak (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg). Senior defender Kelly Burke (Greenwood Village, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) closed the scoring barrage in the 80th minute with her first goal of the season, while Mara Dold (Walpole, Mass./Walpole) notched her first career point with an assist on the play.

Gettysburg out-shot the visitors 32-4 for the game and took seven corner kicks. Goalie Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity) kept the Shorewomen out of the scoring column with four saves en route to her fourth shutout this season and the 11th of her career.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, October 17, for a key league match at McDaniel University. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
