Box Score
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and junior Nikki Dyer (Kildeer, Ill./Stevenson) scored one goal each and the Gettysburg College field hockey team picked up a key Centennial Conference win at McDaniel College, topping the Green Terror 2-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Gettysburg (9-5, 5-2 CC) entered the game leading McDaniel by only one game for fifth place and the final spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs, but put extended their lead to two games over the Green Terror (5-10, 3-4 CC), who fell into a tie with Dickinson for sixth place.
Hearn supplied the Bullets with all the offense they would need when she tipped in a long hit from junior Emily Harwood (Rockville, Md./Magruder) with 14:38 left in the first half for her third goal of the season. In the meantime, Gettysburg used some stifling defense to limit McDaniel to one shot in the opening 35 minutes, and the Bullets took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
That's how the score would remain until Dyer iced the game for the Orange and Blue with 4:22 on the clock. Dyer accepted a pass from Hearn following a corner and drilled in her second goal of the year to set the final score.
Senior Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) saved three shots to collect her second shutout of the season for the Bullets, who finished with a 9-3 advantage in shots.
Gettysburg resumes Centennial Conference play on Saturday, when it hosts Swarthmore College at 4:15 p.m.
