Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Down 2-0 in its Centennial Conference volleyball match at McDaniel College, Gettysburg College bounced back with a pair of dominating games behind senior Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) and sophomore setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg), but the rally fell short as the Green Terror held off the charging Bullets 15-12 in the fifth game to pick up a key Centennial Conference victory.

McDaniel (14-6, 7-0 CC) remained the lone unbeaten team in league play with the 30-26, 30-14, 32-34, 20-30, 15-12 victory, while Gettysburg (15-11, 5-3 CC) saw its postseason chances get a little more difficult with the loss. The Bullets entered the night fourth in the league standings, but with Dickinson College's 3-2 victory over Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, the Red Devils jumped ahead of Gettysburg by half a game.

After dropping the first two games, Gettysburg roared back in games three and four, pounding home 39 combined kills over the two contests to set up the decisive fifth game. McDaniel took an early 8-3 advantage as the squads switched ends, but the Bullets chipped away at the lead to pull to within one on two occasions, the last at 12-11. Two points gave the Green Terror match point until Heffner connected on her match-high 19th kill of the night to pull Gettysburg to within two at 14-12. Time ran out for the visitors, however, as an off-balanced attack attempt by McDaniel found a whole in the Bullet defense.

Heffner was all over the court on the night, leading the Bullets with 19 kills as well as contributing a match-high 27 digs. Krampf bettered her career high with 58 assists and contributed 23 digs and four kills for her 23rd double-double of the season.

Joining Heffner with double-digit attack efforts were freshman Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) with 16, sophomore Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) with 12, and junior Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) with 10. Sophomore Molly Barrett (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) narrowly missed double figures with nine kills and tied McConville for the team lead with six total blocks.

Gettysburg wraps up its non-conference slate on Friday with a road trip to the nation's capital to battle Gallaudet University at 7 p.m. The Bullets beat the Bison 3-0 at the Battlefield Classic earlier this season.
