Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Senior defender Kelly Burke (Greenwood Village, Colo./St. Mary's Academy) scored for the second consecutive match in helping the Gettysburg College women's soccer team pull out a 2-1 victory at Centennial Conference foe McDaniel College (2-13, 1-6 CC) on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifts the Bullets record to 4-3 in the conference and keeps them in the hunt for the fifth and final playoff spot.

Gettysburg, now 5-9-1 overall on the season, came into Wednesday's contest one point back of a fifth-place tie between Muhlenberg College and Haverford College. The Mules and Fords were also in action against the league bottom dwellers, Bryn Mawr College and Washington (Md.) College, respectively.

The Bullets were the first to crack the scoring column as junior Erin Miller (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) picked up her second goal of the season in the 24th minute, taking a cross from the left side and beating the Green Terror keeper. Senior Shaina Wright (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) notched her team-best fourth assist of the season on the play.

Gettysburg continued its domination in the first half, out-shooting the hosts 14-2 and taking 10 corner kicks, but the visitors failed to reach the scoring column until early in the second period when Burke tapped home her second goal in as many games in the 52nd minute. McDaniel retaliated just seven minutes later with a goal by Kelly Scheler, but the Bullet defense held firm for the remaining 32 minutes, allowing just two second-half shot attempts.

Junior Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity) picked up the win by making two saves, while her counterpart in the Green Terror goal, Leanne Hollinger, made 11 stops.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday with another key Centennial Conference match when it squares off with regionally-ranked Swarthmore College at 3 p.m. on Clark Field.
