GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College secured the fourth seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament by downing visiting Dickinson College 3-1 inside the friendly confines of Bream Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. Senior
Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) led the Bullet charge with a double-double, notching 15 kills and 18 digs.
Gettysburg (16-12, 6-3 CC) had a spot in the Centennial playoffs locked up heading into Wednesday's match, but Dickinson (10-15, 5-4 CC) could have stolen home-court advantage in the first round with a victory. The Red Devils were denied in their pursuit as the Bullets came out victorious 32-30, 24-30, 30-25, 30-21.
After bouncing back from a late two-point deficit in the opening game and dropping the second, Gettysburg took advantage of Dickinson's inconsistent play in the final two games. Trailing by just one (21-20) in the third game, the Red Devils committed seven errors down the stretch to en route to a loss. The visitors jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fourth frame, but once again miscues came into play as a service error and back-to-back hitting errors gave the Bullets a 12-11 advantage which they would not relinquish.
Heffner picked up her fourth double-double of the season and third in the last four matches, while sophomore setter
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) notched 43 assists and 13 digs, the former pushing her past 1,000 assists for the second consecutive season.
Krampf's assists were spread around to the Bullet attackers as
Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty),
Molly Barrett (Medfield, Mass./Medfield), and
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) each notched nine kills with
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) chipping in with eight.
Defensively,
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) tallied 11 digs and
Mekenna Sigai (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep.) added 10. Barrett and McConville proved to be a lethal combination at the net, teaming up for seven blocks, including the game-winner in the opener.
Gettysburg wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, with a Centennial Conference match against Muhlenberg College (11-18, 3-6 CC) at noon.
