Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa.  – Lauren Rutt scored 57 seconds into overtime to lift Muhlenberg College to a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 19-ranked Gettysburg in Centennial Conference field hockey action and the regular season finale for both teams Friday evening in a game played in a steady rain.

Gettysburg (11-6, 7-3 CC) entered the game hoping to clinch the No. 3 seed and receive a bye in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs with a win. However, the Bullets can now finish no better than fourth and are faced with a first-round game on Wednesday. If Franklin & Marshall defeats Swarthmore on Saturday, Gettysburg will finish fifth and revisit Muhlenberg in the first round. The Bullets will finish fourth and host Franklin & Marshall in the first round if F&M falls to Swarthmore.

Junior Emily Harwood (Rockville, Md./Magruder) staked the Bullets to a 1-0 lead when, with 15:48 left in the opening half she struck for her seventh goal of the season. Gettysburg took its one-goal lead into the intermission thanks in part to three first-half saves from senior goalie Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame).

The Mules (12-6, 7-3 CC) pulled even with 23:41 left in regulation, when Kelly Shetron tipped in a shot from the left post. Defensively, the hosts kept Gettysburg off the scoreboard by limiting the Bullets to just three second-half shots. However, Corkhill kept her team in it by making three more saves in the second half, sending Gettysburg to its fourth overtime game of the season before Rutt's game-winner.

Muhlenberg, which held a 14-8 advantage in shots, received four saves from Michelle Consiglio.
