ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Molly Latta (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored the game-winning goal off a corner pass 2:53 into overtime as the Gettysburg College field hockey team rallied to beat host Elizabethtown College 3-2 in a non-conference outing Wednesday afternoon.
Latta accepted a feed from senior Molly Myer (Springvale, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) and potted her second goal of the season and her first career game-winner.
Gettysburg (6-4), which won for the third time in its last four games, trailed 2-1 late in regulation before junior Savannah Ruth (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) connected on her team-leading seventh goal of the season with 3:40 remaining. She also converted off a corner, taking a pass from junior Nikki Dyer (Kildeer, Ill./Stevenson).
Dyer put the Bullets on the scoreboard midway through the first half, knocking home a pass from sophomore Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) with 10:10 to go in the opening period for her first goal of the season. Elizabethtown (8-4) struck back quickly, however, as Kelsey Diehl tipped in a long shot to tie the game just over a minute later. The scoreboard read 1-1 at the intermission.
The Blue Jays took the lead on an Andrea Miles goal with 26:03 left. However, senior goalie Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) saved the only shot she faced the rest of the way en route to her sixth win of the season and the 45th of her career.
Corkhill finished with six saves, four of which came during a five-shot barrage over a 37-second span early in the second half.
Laura Ressler turned aside four shots for E-town.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when it visits Bryn Mawr College at 1 p.m.
