BALTIMORE, Md. – After dropping the first two games of its Centennial Conference battle with Johns Hopkins University, the Gettysburg College volleyball team bounced back with a 30-25 victory in the third set. The comeback bid fell short, however, as the host Blue Jays closed the final game 30-18 to take the match 3-1 (30-23, 30-23, 25-30, 30-18).
With the loss, Gettysburg drops to 12-6 on the season and suffers its first league defeat (3-1). Johns Hopkins improved to 17-4, 3-1 CC.
Sophomore
Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) picked up a double-double with a game-high 15 kills and 10 digs, while senior
Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton) added eight kills and nine digs. Sophomore setter
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) also notched a double-double with 38 assists and 14 digs.
Defensively,
Mekenna Sigai (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep.) managed 14 digs and
Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) added eight. Freshman
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) totaled four blocks in addition to seven kills.
The Bullets return to action this weekend with a two-day tournament hosted by New York University on Oct. 5-6. Gettysburg opens with RIT at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a match with the hosts at 8 p.m.
