BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Junior Savannah Ruth (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) and freshman Annie Marosits (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored two goals apiece while 11 different Bullets figured into the scoring column as the Gettysburg College field hockey team rolled to a 9-0 Centennial Conference win over host Brywn Mawr College Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg, which held a whopping 39-1 advantage in shots, improved to 7-4 and 3-2 in conference play. The Bullets posted their highest offensive output since their 9-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Sept. 2, 2005.
Ruth scored both of her goals in the first half, giving her a team-leading nine for the season, and they were sandwiched around a pair of tallies from sophomores Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) and Lauren Woodman (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver), giving the Bullets a 4-0 lead at the break. Senior Sarah Latta (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) assisted on each of Gettysburg's first two goals.
Junior Jenn Amols (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) made it 5-0 just over seven minutes into the second half, and senior Cristi Farrell (Broomall, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) got into the act with her fourth goal of the season 31 seconds later. Marosits followed up with her two goals, the first two of her collegiate career, before freshman Emily Bowden (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) set the final score with her first collegiate goal.
Senior Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) played the opening 44:30 to earn the win in goal while sophomore Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./The Calverton School) played the final 25:30. Neither goalie needed to make a save as they combined for the shutout.
The Bullets play their final non-conference regular season game on Tuesday, when they visit No. 8-ranked Messiah College at 4 p.m.
