HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior Bobby Moore (Harpswell, Maine/Hyde School) scored in the 98th minute to complete a furious late-game rally as the Gettysburg College men's soccer team stunned Haverford College 3-2 in overtime Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.
The Bullets (7-5, 3-2 CC) trailed 2-0 heading into the 82nd minute before sophomore Chris Bayon (Langhorne, Pa./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)) sparked the comeback, converting a turnover into his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Sophomore Geoff Menge (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) followed up with his fourth goal of the year in the 88th minute, taking a cross from sophomore Ryan Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) and sending in a shot from the right side of the box to make it a 2-2 game.
Moore finished things off 7:41 into the extra session, accepting a pass from freshman Brandon Bell (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and blasting a shot off a defender and into the net for the second goal of his career.
Haverford (1-9-1, 0-4-1 CC) took a 1-0 lead when Chris Dioguardi scored in the 18th minute, and Max Strossel made it a 2-0 game six minutes later.
Gettysburg managed six shots in the first half but turned up the heat in the second period, reeling off 12 shots to Haverford's five. The Bullets went on to out-shoot the Fords 5-0 in overtime, giving the visitors a 23-8 advantage for the game.
Senior Matt Langston (Harrisburg, Pa./Cental Dauphin East) went the distance in goal for the Bullets and came up with two saves. Adam Care stopped 13 shots for Haverford.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Washington College at 3:30 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match-up.
