Box Score

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Junior catcher Michael Donohue (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) went 2-for-4 with two RBI, but Gettysburg was done in by five errors in an 8-4 loss to Arcadia in non-conference action on Thursday morning. The Bullets scored two each in the first and second innings before the Arcadia pitching stuff shut them down.

Gettysburg (8-2) senior right fielder Chase Straub (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was 1-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a two-bagger.

Arcadia (3-2) senior right fielder Dave Morris led the way offensively, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Senior right-hander Tyler Pennepacker went four innings, striking out seven without walking a batter before giving way to freshman Alex Gelegotis, who blanked the Bullets for five innings to get the win. He struck out four and walked none while allowing just two hits.

Gettysburg, which was the visiting team in the game, got a pair in the top of the first. Junior center fielder Sean McGee (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) reached on an error to lead off the game. Senior third baseman Ben Carey (Colchester, Conn./St. Bernard) followed with a double, and two batters later, Donohue plated them both with a single.

In the bottom of the inning, Arcadia scored twice, aided by a pair of Gettysburg errors. The Bullets got both runs back in their next turn at bat. Sophomore shortstop Sam Stabert (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) led off with a single and stole second. One out later, Straub ripped an RBI double. He would come around to score on a pair of wild pitches, but that would be all Gettysburg could get.

Arcadia got a single run in the bottom of the second on an RBI groundout by junior shortstop John Curreri. Two more Bullet errors in the bottom of the seventh contributed to a five-run Arcadia inning that made a winner of Gelegotis.

Gettysburg will return to action on Friday when the Bullets take on Saint Mary's (Minn.) in an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
