YORK, Pa. – Gettysburg opened the spring season with a fifth-place 314 in the York (Pa.) College Spring Golf Invitational at the Outdoor Country Club on Monday afternoon. Freshmen Matthew Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./Calverton School) and Reid Sessa (Garden City, N.Y./Xavier) tied for 16th place with rounds of 76 to lead the Bullets in the 10-team event.

York hosted the event and shot a five-over-par 293 to win by seven strokes. Messiah placed second with a round of 300. Senior Sean Leitzell paced the field with a 67 to take individual honors by four strokes.

Gettysburg freshman Ned MacPherson (North Marshfield, Mass./St. Mark's School) tied for 19th place with a round of 77, and senior Brian Shea (Lutherville, Md./Towson) rounded out the Bullet scorers with an 85, tying for 37th place.

Gettysburg will be back in action on Tuesday when the Bullets host the 2007 Gettysburg Spring Invitational at The Links at Gettysburg. Tee time is set for 1 p.m.
