Box Score

GRANTHAM, Pa. – No. 1 Gettysburg used a balanced, quick-strike offense to defeat No. 17 Messiah in non-conference action on Tuesday night. Six of the eight Bullets who scored had at least three points, led by senior attacker Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) with four goals and an assist. Gettysburg has now beaten four ranked opponents in its first six games.

Ewing's four goal outburst was her third outing of at least four goals this season. Gettysburg (6-0) also got three goals and one assist each from senior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and senior captain Katie Hagan (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara). Junior midfielder Megan Moore (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School) added two goals and two assists, and freshman goalie Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) made 10 saves to earn the win.

The Falcons (1-4) were led by junior attacker Bethany Moskevitz, who tallied a hat trick and an assist for a team-high four points. Classmate Abby Boyd tacked on two goals.

The teams traded goals in the first 5:15 with the Bullets scoring first and the Falcons answering. It was off to the races for Gettysburg after that.

Junior midfielder Katie Ceglarski (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored with an assist from Betts at the 21:09 mark kicking off a 4-0 Gettysburg run that made it 5-1. The visitors would never give back the lead. Moskevitz scored twice in just over four minutes sandwiching a free-position goal by Hagan.

Just over a minute after Moskevitz's second goal, Ewing tallied her first marker of the night, which was the eventual game winner. It also touched off a run of four Bullet goals in 1:15. Ewing and Moore each scored twice in the run, and Betts capped off the first half with a free-position strike at the 1:13 mark that made the score 11-3.

Boyd opened the second half with a Messiah goal which was assisted by senior midfielder Megan Duke. Duke had a pair of helpers on the night.

Gettysburg junior attacker Jamie Giffuni (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) erased any thoughts of a Falcon comeback just 37 seconds later. Messiah sophomore goalie Jen Venter had made a save, but when she tried to clear the ball, Giffuni blocked it back into the goal. That would be the first of four straight goals for the Bullets in a span of 7:21. The Falcons then scored the game's last two goals to set the final score.

Gettysburg will return home to Clark Field on Thursday after a five-game stretch on the road to take on No. 7 Middlebury. The opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
