ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore center fielder Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) went 7-for-8 with a double, a triple, six RBI and five runs scored to help Gettysburg to a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader split against Muhlenberg at Cedarcreek Field on Saturday afternoon. She piled up 10 total bases and slugged 1.250 in pacing the Bullets to a 6-4 win in eight innings in the opener before the Mules bounced back to take game two, 9-7.

Gettysburg (9-5, 1-1 CC) teammates Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park), Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford-Mendon) and Megan Dean (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) added four hits apiece, and Kempski drove in three runs.

For Muhlenberg (4-12, 1-1 CC), sophomore left fielder Samantha Crist paced the offensive attack by going 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore catcher RiRi Ferrigno also had a big day with two doubles and four RBI as part of a 4-for-7 afternoon.

In the opener, the Bullets put up three runs in the top of the third inning. Yannotta started the uprising with a two-out RBI single to right field. She advanced to second on the throw, setting up a second-and-third situation. Ober plated Yannotta and junior catcher Abbe Miller (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), who was 3-for-7 with three runs on the day.

Gettysburg tacked on another tally in the sixth on an RBI single by Dean, but the Mules retaliated with three in the bottom of the frame. With runners on second and third and no outs, Crist smacked a three-run home run to left field. Muhlenberg was not done however, as the home squad strung together a walk and two hits to plate the tying run in the bottom of the seventh.

That would prove to be a temporary setback for Gettysburg. Miller led off and was hit by a pitch. She went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Yannotta, and scored on Ober's single through the right side. Ober wound up on second when the throw went to the plate. In the game, Ober was 3-for-4 with three RBI, and she scored twice. She moved to third on a groundout and came home on Kempski's RBI single up the middle.

Sophomore pitcher Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) retired the side in order in the bottom of the eighth to improve her record to 4-3 on the season.

In game two, Ober continued to swing a hot bat. She went 4-for-4 with three RBI and she crossed the plate three times.

An RBI groundout by Kempski and a run-scoring single by Dean gave the Bullets a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. They added another run in their next turn on Ober's single that plated sophomore second baseman Jessica Wallick (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg).

The Mules rallied for two in their half of the frame and exploded for seven runs in the fourth. The inning featured a single, two doubles, a triple and five walks. The big blow came in the form of back-to-back two-run doubles by Crist and Ferrigno. At the end of the fourth, Muhlenberg was ahead 9-3.

Gettysburg's bats came alive again in the next half inning. Ober tripled in two runs, and freshman designated player Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) singled to drive her in. The Bullets would add another single run in the top of the seventh, but could get no closer than 9-7.

The Bullets will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Grantham, Pa., for a non-conference twin bill against Messiah. The first pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
