Men's Golf Places Ninth at Two-Day McDaniel Spring Invitational

Gettysburg shot a first-round 337, followed by a 338 second round to finish ninth with a 675 in the twelve-team McDaniel Spring Invitational played on Saturday and Sunday at The Links at Gettysburg. Freshman Ned MacPherson (North Mansfield, Mass./St. Mark's School) finished in a twenty-ninth place tie with a two-round score of 161.

MacPherson shot a seven-over-par 79 on the first day of competition for the Bullets' best round of the weekend. He followed with an 82 on Sunday. Senior Nicholas Campanile (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional) and junior James LeClair (Plainfield, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) tied for 40th with a 168. Campanile had a first-round 81. Freshman Matthew Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./Calverton School) put together a 184 on the weekend. His first-round 94 accounted for the Bullets' fourth score on Saturday, and freshman Reid Sessa (Garden City, N.Y./Xavier), who withdrew on Saturday due to injury, rebounded to shot an 84 on Sunday.

The Bullets were eighth after the first day of competition, 35 strokes off the pace established by St. John Fisher and Carnegie Mellon's 302. Wesley (308) and Susquehanna (310) rounded out the top four. St. John Fisher shot a 294 round on Sunday to take sole possession of first place with a score of 596. Susquehanna took over second place with a second-round 293 and a final score of 603, while Carnegie Mellon and Wesley fell to third and fourth with scores of 615 and 617, respectively.

Scott Harris, Jr. of St. John Fisher posted a two-round 140 to take individual medalist honors. Jon Pecor of Rochester, Pat Serfass of Susquehanna and Tyler Smith of Wesley each shot a 147 to finish tied for second.

Gettysburg will take to the course again next Monday for the Swarthmore Open in Springfield, Pa.
