Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) picked up the win in the nightcap for the Bullets after five innings of work. She improved to 6-5 on the season with the win. Rubino recorded her first career save after her relief effort in the top of the sixth.
Franklin & Marshall (7-21, 1-9 CC) freshman designated player Caitlin Elfring was 3-for-5 with one walk and five RBI. Freshman shortstop Kristina Fietkiewicz recorded two hits on the day, rounding out the Diplomats' multiple-hit players.
Following two scoreless innings in game one, Gettysburg put together four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third. After a Diplomat threat stranded three in the top of the inning, the Bullets came out with back-to-back singles from senior third baseman
Megan Dean (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and junior left fielder
Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). An
Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) double down the left field line scored Dean and Sagaities. Ober stole third before junior catcher
Abbe Miller (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) drew a walk. With Ober at third, Miller was able to advance all the way to second. Senior right fielder
Meg Gorsuch (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) timed her double down the left field line perfectly to plate Ober and Miller for an early Bullet lead.
Franklin & Marshall came back to tie the game with four runs in the top of the fifth. Two walks and a Robyn Jones single up the middle loaded the bases for the Diplomats. A third walk put them on the scoreboard. A two-out double from Elfring knotted the game at four.
Gettysburg would answer with another six runs in the bottom of the inning before adding a single tally in the sixth for the 11-4 win.
Game two saw six Gettysburg players drive in at least one run each, with three plating two, allowing the Bullets to score in four of the six innings played.
An early 4-0 Gettysburg lead was cut in half when the Diplomats put two on the board on two hits in the fifth, but the Bullet bats caught fire to tally an impressive six runs on seven hits and end the game prematurely.
The Bullets will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., for a twinbill against the Crusaders of Susquehanna. Game one is slated for 3 p.m.
