Game 2 Box Score

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore right-hander Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) struck out nine batters in a three-hit shutout in game one, and sophomore center fielder Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) was 3-for-6 with a double and a triple in a non-conference doubleheader split with Susquehanna at Sassafras Field on Thursday afternoon. The Bullets took game one 2-0, before the Crusaders won game two by an 11-7 count.

For Gettysburg (14-10), Rubino walked just one batter and did not allow more than one base runner in any inning to pick up the eighth shutout of her career. Ober drove in two runs and scored once. Junior left fielder Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) paced the offense with four hits in eight trips to the plate. She had a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Senior third baseman Megan Dean (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) also scored twice and added a pair of RBI.

Susquehanna (12-6) sophomore first baseman Laurie Blaszka had two of her team's three doubles on the day. Game two left fielder Kelsey Conway was 1-for-1 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored. In the circle, senior pitcher Kelly McHale went the first 10 2/3 innings and took the loss in the opener despite allowing just one earned run.

The Bullets got things started quickly in the top of the first inning. Sagaities singled and was sacrificed to second by Dean. She then rode home on Ober's RBI double. Gettysburg would tack on the game's only other run in the third. Dean reached on an error and went to second on a sacrifice by Ober. Sophomore shortstop Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) connected for a two-out double to drive in Dean.

In the meantime, Rubino was busy setting the Crusader hitters down. She allowed a one-out single to senior shortstop Sarah Shaffer in the first, but retired 11 of the next 12 hitters. Blaszka broke up that run with a leadoff double in the fifth. She was moved to third on a sacrifice before being stranded. Susquehanna collected a two-out double from Blaszka in the bottom of the seventh, but would go no farther.

The visitors got on the board first in game two as well. Sagaities and Dean hit back-to-back one-out doubles in the top of the third, but that lead was short-lived.

Susquehanna scored five runs in the bottom of the inning without getting a hit. The Crusaders waited out five walks and a hit batter. They also used two fielder's choices and a Gettysburg error to fuel the rally.

The Bullets scored a single run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth to climb back to within one at 5-4, but Susquehanna again went to work in the bottom of the fifth. The Crusaders put together four RBI hits, including a triple by senior centerfielder Kristin Boccafola and a two-run double by junior third baseman Megan McCurley.

Gettysburg struck for three in the top of the sixth on a Dean fielder's choice, an Ober triple and an RBI single by Miller. The Bullets ended that inning down by two at 9-7, but their hosts tacked on two in the bottom of the inning and retired the side in the ninth despite a double by freshman first baseman Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon).

The Bullets will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Collegeville, Pa., to take on Centennial Conference leader Ursinus. Game one will get under way at 1 p.m.
