GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg earned a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Bobby Jones Field. Junior left fielder
Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) produced both game-winning hits. A single to center plated the game winner in game one, while a two-out, walk-off home run completed the sweep for the Bullets. She was 5-for-9 with a walk, three RBI and four runs scored on the day. Sophomore center fielder
Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) and freshman second baseman
Ali Iacobucci (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) each added four hits to the Bullets' offense. Ober also recorded a triple and a two-run home run for four RBI and two runs scored. Game one saw freshman designated player
Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) tally her first career home run.
Sophomore right-hander
Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) earned the win in both games for Gettysburg (19-11, 9-5 CC), improving to 13-5 on the season. She pitched 14 innings with five walks and 16 strikeouts. Rubino has recorded 130 strikeouts this season.
McDaniel (15-17, 7-7 CC) junior second baseman Brittany King was 3-for-7 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Junior center fielder Diana Rosemier recorded three hits on the day with a double and a walk, while plating four runs and scoring two for the Green Terror.
After an early 1-0 McDaniel lead in game one, Gettysburg put together a run on three hits in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back singles by freshman first baseman
Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) and Sagaities were followed by a
Megan Dean (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) sacrifice bunt and an Ober single through the left side to plate Kempski. That was all either team would get until the seventh inning.
McDaniel came through with four runs on one hit and three Bullet errors in their half of the seventh, but Gettysburg rallied back and strung together five runs on five hits to take game one.
Game two saw four Gettysburg players drive in at least one run each, with three plating two or more, allowing the Bullets to score in five of the seven innings played. McDaniel and Gettysburg combined for 28 hits in the nightcap with 11 and 17, respectively.
An early 4-1 McDaniel lead was overcome when the Bullets put four on the board on four hits in the second. Woodbury reached on a single up the middle, while Kempski reached on a fielder's choice. Sagaities earned a free pass before Dean's double to left center scored all three. Ober followed with a triple to left center, driving in Dean.
The third inning saw the Green Terror answer with three runs to take a 7-5 lead. Gettysburg put up two in the fourth and each team tallied a run in the sixth, knotting the game at eight.
A Bullet error gave McDaniel a one-run lead, but Gettysburg came back in their half of the seventh for the second time of the day to come out on top.
With two outs, Kempski singled up the middle to keep the Bullets alive and bring up Sagaities who followed with a homerun over the center field fence for the winning run and Bullet sweep.
The Bullets will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Chestertown, Md., to take on the Shorewomen of Washington for a CC twinbill. Game one is slated for 1 p.m.
