CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Three Gettysburg players hit home runs as the Bullets swept a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader from Washington (Md.) on Saturday afternoon by scores of 4-2 and 5-2, improving their season-high winning streak to seven games. With the wins, Gettysburg is guaranteed the second or third seed in the upcoming CC tournament.

On the mound, sophomore right-hander Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) went the distance in both games, picking up two wins. She had 18 strikeouts on the day, bringing her within seven of breaking the career school record. Rubino allowed only two earned runs in her 14 innings of work, which lowers her ERA to 2.01.

Junior left fielder Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) led Gettysburg (21-11, 11-5 CC) on the offensive side with a 4-for-8 performance that included a home run, three runs scored and a stolen base. Sophomore center fielder Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) went 3-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored, three RBI and a walk. After tallying her first career home run earlier in the week, freshman designated player Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) hit her first career game-winning home run in game one. The same three players homered in Gettysburg's doubleheader sweep of McDaniel this past Wednesday. Junior catcher Abbe Miller (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) also had a strong day at the plate for the Bullets, going 3-for-5 with a triple, one RBI, a walk and a sacrifice.

Junior centerfielder Meg Travers went 2-for-7 with a home run for Washington (9-29, 2-14 CC). Travers' classmate, catcher Kim Proctor, was 2-for-6 with a double, a run scored, one RBI and a walk.

Game one saw the Bullets get out quickly by scoring a single run in the top of the first. After the first two hitters flew out, Ober drew a walk. Miller followed with her second triple of the year, which plated Ober. Two perfect innings of work from Rubino allowed Gettysburg to add to its lead in the third. Sagaities led off the inning by reaching on an error. After a sacrifice by senior Megan Dean (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and two fielder's choices, Gettysburg had Ober on second and Miller on first with two outs. Sophomore shortstop Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) proceeded to deliver a single that scored Ober for the second time.

After two more perfect innings from Rubino, Washington finally got to her in the fifth to tie the score. Proctor reached on an error to lead off the inning and was on second two outs later. A single followed by a double from the Shorewomen's seven and eight hitters knotted the game at two.

Gettysburg went down in order in its half of the sixth, but Washington mounted a threat with a double by sophomore Meghan Luterzo in the bottom half. Rubino kept the game tied by enducing Proctor to ground out to Dean at third.

Woodbury led off the seventh inning with her second career home run to give Gettysburg a 3-2 advantage. Two outs later, Sagaitites provided some insurance by matching Woodbury's blast with one of her own. Rubino held onto the lead as she sent Washington down in order, mixing in two strikeouts, to preserve the win.

Game two saw Washington take the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first when Travers homered to right center. After being shut out the first two innings, Gettysburg's offense put up a crooked number in the third. With one out, Sagaities singled up the middle. Dean reached on a fielder's choice, advancing Sagaities to second. Ober came up with two on and did not disappoint as she homered to left center to give the Bullets a lead they would not relinquish.

The Bullets quickly added to their lead by putting up two more runs in the fourth. With two outs, freshman Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), who had reached on a fielder's choice, was on first. Sagaities provided a single through the left side to move Kempski to second and extend the inning. Dean proceeded to hit a double that scored both runners and give Gettysburg a four-run lead.

Washington loaded the bases in the fifth with two singles and a walk, bringing the tying run to the plate. Rubino escaped the jam when she recorded a strikeout of junior captain Amanda Campbell. The Shorewomen went down in order in the sixth, two via strikeout, but rallied in the seventh to put a scare into the Bullets.

With a runner on first and two outs, a single and a double plated one runner and put runners on second and third, once again bringing the tying run to the plate. Once again, Rubino was up to the challenge as she recorded her 18th strikeout to seal the sweep for Gettysburg.

Gettysburg will finish off the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader at Salisbury on Tuesday. The Centennial Conference tournament will begin next Saturday, May 6 on the campus of top-seeded Ursinus. Gettysburg will either be the second or third seed depending on Sunday's Swarthmore at McDaniel doubleheader; the Bullets will take on either Swarthmore or Dickinson in the first round.
