Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) netted a personal-best six points on a career-high tying five goals, and junior midfielder Megan Moore (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School) added a hat trick and an assist to help No. 5 Gettysburg to a 12-8 victory against No. 20 Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) action at Clark Field on Tuesday night. The Bullets have now beaten five ranked teams in the first nine games of the season.

Gettysburg (8-1, 4-0 CC) junior attacker Jamie Giffuni (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) matched her career high with three assists in the contest.

The Red Devils (6-4, 3-1 CC) were led by freshman midfielder Alyssa Crellin, who tallied two goals. Sophomore midfielder Amy Jennings and senior midfielder Laura Williams each added a goal and an assist.

Gettysburg used a six-goal run spanning the halves to break a 3-3 tie and take a lead it would never relinquish. Betts scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot with just 17 seconds left in the first half. That would give the Bullets the lead for good after they exploded for the first five goals of the second half.

The Bullets transition game turned it up a notch in the opening minutes of the second half. Just 1:28 after the break, Betts hauled in a long pass near the right post and fired a strike to Moore, who had 30 yards of open space in front of her to run in on the crease from the right. She converted, and Betts added two scores in the next 3:45.

Only 53 seconds after Betts netted her fourth goal, Moore took a point-blank shot that was blocked. The ball fell right at her feet, and she was able to flip it in off the ground. Junior attacker Krissy Browning (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) closed off the Gettysburg run by knifing through traffic in front of the net and striking unassisted.

Williams nearly ended the run off a scrum outside the Gettysburg restraining line, but her wide-open shot hit the left post. Crellin did succeed in ending the streak on a drive from the 12-meter line, but the Bullets netted a pair of tallies in a 43-second span to make the score 10-4. The first of those was a free-position strike from senior attacker Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) that proved to be the game winner.

The Red Devils tallied four of the game's last five goals, but time ran out on their comeback.

Gettysburg will be back in action on Friday when the Bullets play host to No. 1 The College of New Jersey in a rematch of the 2006 NCAA Division III championship game. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
