Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Sophomore right-hander Will Kleva (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) went the distance to earn the complete-game win, and senior right fielder Chase Straub (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) was 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Gettysburg's 8-2 victory against McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) action at Preston Field on Friday afternoon. Kleva struck out two and walked three while giving up two earned runs to improve to 4-0 on the season and bring his ERA to 1.67.

Gettysburg (16-3, 5-1 CC) pounded out eight runs on 11 hits, while McDaniel's (5-13, 1-5 CC) two runs came on five hits.

Seniors Joe Bonyai (Torrington, Conn./Hotchkiss School) and Mark Campo (Arendtsville, Pa./Biglerville) were each 2-for-4 on the day for the Bullets. Bonyai also came around to score a run, while Campo plated one in the second. Senior third baseman Ben Carey (Colchester, Conn./St. Bernard), junior catcher Michael Donohue (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and sophomores Scott Vladyka (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) and Sam Stabert (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) each had a hit in the game.

The Green Terror was led by sophomore first baseman Troy Tipton, who was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBI. Sophomore catcher Justin Reitz and sophomore third baseman Brent Toms each collected a hit.

The Bullets took an early 3-0 lead through the first three innings, before McDaniel answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth. A Straub single to third, followed by two passed balls and an RBI base knock from Vladyka put Gettysburg on the board in the second. After Vladyka stole second, Campo drove him in with a single of his own to center. For McDaniel in the fourth, Tipton drove in Reitz, who led off with a walk.

After three scoreless innings, the Bullets got the scoring started up again in the top of the eighth. Donohue led off with a single up the middle. He went to second on the next play when junior first baseman Matt Stillitano (Ewing, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) grounded out to the pitcher. He then advanced to third when Straub singled to right. Donohue scored when Vladyka reached base on a McDaniel error. A Stabert single to center would bring in Straub and Vladyka.

Gettysburg put together two more runs in the ninth. Two walks and two passed balls helped Straub plate pinch runner Andrew Freeburger (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) and Stillitano with his double to center. McDaniel's other run came in the bottom of the inning when a Tipton double to left center scored Reitz, who led off with a single to shortstop.

The Bullets will be back in action on Saturday when they welcome the Fords of Haverford to Kirchhoff Field for a CC doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 12:30 p.m.
