LITTLE FALLS, N.J. – Sophomore right-hander Kristy Rubino (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) tossed a five hitter while freshman second baseman Ali Iacobucci (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) drove in a pair of runs as fifth-seeded Gettysburg won the first game of the 2007 NCAA Division III Montclair, N.J. Regional with a 4-1 victory over fourth-seeded Ramapo at the MSU Softball Stadium on Thursday morning. Rubino improved to 19-6 as she did not walk a batter and fanned eight, raising her school single-season total to 185.

After a scoreless first inning, the Bullets (25-14) put a run on the board in the second as sophomore shortstop Nicole Yannotta (Whippany, N.J./Whippany Park) singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. Iacobucci collected an infield single to put runners on the corners before senior right fielder Meg Gorsuch (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) delivered an RBI single to left for the first run.

Gettysburg would extend the lead the following inning with three more runs. With one out, sophomore center fielder Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney) walked and junior catcher Abbe Miller (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) singled to right. Miller would move up to third on a fly out and freshman designated player Sarah Woodbury (Audubon, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) drew a bases on balls to load the bases. Iacobucci then lined a single to left center scoring two as the Bullets led 3-0. Freshman first baseman Kara Kempski (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) added an RBI single as Gettysburg built its four-run cushion.

Rubino retired the first 14 Roadrunners she faced before allowing a single to senior left fielder Leah Mondadori with two outs in the fifth.

Ramapo (30-9) would get on the board in the sixth when freshman center fielder Katie Donnelly tripled to left and junior third baseman Lauren Cascino singled to drive in the first Ramapo run. Senior first baseman Beth Choma followed with another single, however Rubino was able to get the next three hitters to end the threat.

Yannotta and Iacobucci each finished 2-for-3 for Gettysburg, which outhit Ramapo, 8-5, in the contest.

Sophomore Maria DeBonis tossed a complete game and also provided the offense with a two-run homer as top-seeded Moravian (33-5) defeated Gettysburg, 6-2, in the fourth game of the day. Junior shortstop Beth Paly had two hits and two RBI.

Woodbury drove in both runs for Gettysburg.

The Greyhounds quickly took a 2-0 lead in the first as sophomore center fielder Erica Klepeisz led off with a single and after moving to second on a sacrifice, scored when Paly tripled to right. Paly scored on an error for the second run.

Moravian extended the lead to 3-0 in the third as it successfully executed a double steal with sophomore designated player Deanna Mangieri taking home in the process.

Gettysburg got a run back in the fourth as Woodbury brought home a run with a fielder's choice, and the Bullets made it a one-run game in the top of the sixth as Woodbury again came through, this time with an RBI single.

But that would be as close as Gettysburg would get as Moravian tacked on three runs in the bottom of the inning, two off the bat of DeBonis, who connected for her third home run of the year over the right field fence. Paly also had an RBI single in the inning.

Klepeisz, Paly and DeBonis each finished 2-for-4 in the game. Miller was 3-for-3 for the Bullets.

Gettysburg will return to action on Friday when they take on the third-seeded Lady Monarchs of King's (Pa.) College. Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
