Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y. – No. 1 Franklin & Marshall scored nine straight goals after falling behind 1-0 en route to a 13-7 victory against No. 4 Gettysburg in the 2007 NCAA Division III semifinals at McCooey Field. The Diplomats advance to their first-ever national title game and will be the second straight Centennial Conference (CC) representative in the championship contest.

Three Franklin & Marshall (20-0) players tallied six points apiece. Sophomore attacker Jen Pritchard tallied a game-high five goals. Freshman attacker Blake Hargest netted four markers to go with a pair of assists, and sophomore midfielder Shannon Summers had a goal and five assists. Freshman netminder Lidia Sanza made seven saves and picked up six ground balls.

The Bullets (17-4) were led by two goals and an assist from junior midfielder Megan Moore (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School). Senior captain Katie Hagan (Media, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) also scored twice, and fellow captain Laurie Goon (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) had team highs with six ground balls and four draw controls. Freshman goalie Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) had 10 saves.

Gettysburg dominated the first 10 minutes of play, getting a goal from senior attacker Alexandra Ewing (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) just 2:59 in. She ran in from a flat angle toward the right post with a Diplomat defender in tow and beat Sanza high, but that would be the last Bullet goal for 37:22, by which time Franklin & Marshall had run off nine straight goals.

The Diplomats had seven free-position attempts in the game, but converted only once. An apparent Franklin & Marshall goal was waved off for a shooting space violation with 22:59 to go in the first half, and Krammer made the stop on the ensuing attempt. Just 24 seconds later, another attempt missed wide.

A little more than two minutes later, a point-blank shot by Gettysburg freshman attacker Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) was saved by Sanza, denying a good scoring opportunity. With 17:46 remaining, another Diplomat goal was disallowed for an illegal screen, but just over a minute later, Hargest started the Franklin & Marshall rally. Summers zipped a pass from behind the net to Hargest, who was waiting just outside the crease at the left post. Pritchard gave her team the lead for good with 14:45 to go in the opening frame, and 43 seconds later, Summers and Hargest connected again.

The Diplomats went to the break with a 5-1 lead and continued the scoring streak with the first four tallies of the second half. Pritchard scored the eventual game winner in the fifth minute of the half. She added another goal just under four minutes later before the Bullets began a comeback attempt.

Moore converted a Ceglarski pass with 19:39 to go, beginning a 3-0 Gettysburg run and extending Ceglarski's point streak to 21 straight games. Less than three minutes later with the Bullets in transition, senior attacker Jen Betts (Potomac, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) attempted a pass to Moore at the left post that drew Sanza off-center. A Diplomat defender got a stick on the ball, but tipped it into the goal, and Ceglarski scored 2:45 later to pull the game within five at 9-4. The teams alternated goals the rest of the way, keeping Gettysburg from getting any closer.

The Gettysburg class of 2007 ends its career with a 72-12 overall record, three Centennial Conference championships, four NCAA tournament appearances and the first two NCAA semifinal appearances in program history.
