Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Chris Bayon (Langhorne, Pa./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)) connected on a pair of goals in the first half to propel Gettysburg College to a 2-1 victory over visiting Moravian College in non-conference men's soccer action at Clark Field. With the win, the Bullets even their season record at 3-3, while the Greyhounds fall to 2-3.

It didn't take long for Bayon to light the lamp as the junior forward put Gettysburg ahead in second minute of the game. The Bullets controlled the opening tap and quickly marched down the right side of the field where senior Bobby Moore (Harpswell, Maine/Hyde School) set up for the cross. His aim was true as Bayon leaped into the air and put the header into the right corner of the goal.

Gettysburg stayed on the attack and once again a scoring opportunity presented itself for Bayon, this time through the use of his foot. Senior Pat Brown (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) corralled the ball in the midfield and sent it to Bayon who blasted the ball into the right side of the goal from about 18 yards out at 20:02.

The Bullet defense anchored by Ross Witte (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus), Drew Erickson (Wynnewood, Pa./Friends Central School), and Ryan Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) prevented Moravian from gaining a clear shot at the goal for much of the first half. The Greyhounds bit back in the final five minutes of the frame, however, firing off six shots, but senior goalie Matt Langston (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) kept the visitors off the scoreboard with a clean save on the only shot directly at the goal.

In the second half, Moravian switched goalies and the change appeared to work as Gettysburg could not find the scoring column, despite firing off 14 shots. Similar to their first half stand, the Greyhounds put the pressure on late in the period and eventually came away with a goal as Louis Dollarton smashed a ball into the upper right corner from beyond 18 yards with just 23 seconds remaining in the game. Time was the enemy for Moravian as the Bullets controlled the ball in the waning moments of the game.

Gettysburg out-shot the visitors 28-14, but corner kicks were even at four. Tobias Frost made six saves in the opening stanza for the Greyhounds, while Chris Nederostek came up with one. After making only one save in the first period, Langston stopped four more shots cold in the second half to pick up his first win of the season.

The Bullets return to the friendly confines of Clark Field for their next game against their first Centennial Conference opponent of the season, Ursinus College, on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m.
