LATROBE, Pa. – After opening the day with a five-game victory over Thiel College, powered by a season-high 21 kills from senior Katie Heffner (Easton, Pa./Easton), the Gettysburg College volleyball team had its seven-match winning streak snapped with a four-game loss to host Saint Vincent College on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Gettysburg, now 8-3 overall on the season, defeated Thiel 26-30, 30-23, 30-15, 28-30, 15-9 in the first match of the day. Heffner was a monster on the net, connecting on 21-of-38 attack attempts with no hitting errors (.553 attack percentage). She was just three kills short of her career high notched at Franklin & Marshall College on Oct. 4, 2005. The senior also contributed four total blocks and eight digs.

Three Bullets notched double-doubles against the Tomcats as Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy), and Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) all turned the trick. Rickabaugh finished with 10 kills and 24 digs, while fellow sophomore Mercier notched 13 kills and 21 digs. Yoder, a freshman, connected on a dozen attacks with 10 digs and added six total blocks.

Sophomore setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) led the attack with 45 assists and posted a team-high 25 digs, while Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) put up 14 digs.

Saint Vincent ended the Bullets run by scores of 30-28, 30-23, 22-30, 30-22. After posting 15 or more kills in three of five games against Thiel, Gettysburg managed to equal the feat in only one game with 17 kills in the third against the Bearcats. Heffner and Mercier led the way with 13 kills, while Yoder added a dozen. Krampf paced the offense with 44 assists.

Both Krampf and Mercier notched 20 digs in the match, the former putting up 20 and the latter 24. Kotewicz and Rickabaugh contributed 11 and 17 digs, respectively.

Gettysburg resumes play on Friday, Sept. 21, at the Salisbury University Invitational. The Bullets begin the two-day tournament against Richard Stockton College at 6 p.m., followed by an 8 p.m. contest against the hosts. On Saturday, Sept. 22, Gettysburg wraps up the weekend with matches against Johns Hopkins University and New Jersey City University at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
