BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer opened the 2007 Centennial Conference season on a high note Saturday afternoon, downing host Bryn Mawr College 2-0 on first-half goals by
Erin Miller (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) and
Colleen Stuart (Centennial, Colo./Arapahoe).
The Bullets (2-4, 1-0 CC) came out of the gates firing against the Owls, sending 16 shots at the goal in the opening stanza alone. Miller put the visitors on the scoreboard with her first goal of the season in the 12th minute, lofting a shot over the Bryn Mawr keeper. Sophomore
Kerry McKenna (Sharon, Conn./Kent School) picked up an assist on the play, her first this fall.
It wasn't too long before Gettysburg lit the lamp again as senior co-captains Stuart and
Shaina Wright (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) connected on a goal at 20:06, marking Stuart's seventh career score and Wright's fourth career assist.
After switching keepers at the break, the Owls kept the Bullets out of the scoring column for the remainder of the contest, despite eight of nine shots being on goal. Collette Pullion pitched the second-half shut down, tallying eight saves.
Junior
Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity) made four saves for the visitors en route to her second shutout of the season and the ninth of her career.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, with a non-conference affair at third-ranked Messiah College at 7 p.m.
