GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team ran into its third ranked opponent already this season on Wednesday night in No. 3 Messiah College, and the visiting Bullets came out on the wrong side of a 3-0 score. With the loss, Gettysburg drops to 2-5 on the season, while the Falcons remain undefeated at 7-0.
Having already lost 2-0 decisions to No. 24 Ithaca College and No. 20 Union College this season, the Bullets knew it would take a perfect outing to knock off third-ranked Messiah, the 2005 NCAA Division III national champions. The Falcons downed the visitor's hopes fairly quickly, however, dropping three goals in the 7th, 21st, and 72nd minutes. The first pair of goals came off the foot of Corrie Jones, while the last score of the game was booted home by Stef Rowe.
Messiah, which came into the game allowing just 4.2 shots per game, didn't allow the Bullet offense any shots. Meanwhile, the hosts fired 18 attempts at Gettysburg goalie
Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity), who was one off a career high and tied a season high with 10 saves.
The Bullets return home and to Centennial Conference action for their next contest against Haverford College on Saturday, Sept. 22. The match is slated to begin on Clark Field at 4 p.m.
