ANNVILLE, Pa. – For the second game in a row, the Gettysburg College field hockey team gave a nationally-ranked program all it could handle, but the Bullets dropped a 2-1 decision at undefeated and No. 7-ranked Lebanon Valley College Thursday afternoon.
Gettysburg (3-3), which took No. 12 Johns Hopkins to overtime in a 2-1 loss on Saturday, led 1-0 at halftime after sophomore Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored her first goal of the season with 10:44 on the clock. Lebanon Valley out-shot the Bullets 9-3 in the opening half, but senior goalie Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) kept the Flying Dutchmen at bay with five first-half saves.
A national semifinalist in 2006, Lebanon Valley (6-0) rallied with two quick goals early in the second half. Danielle Blase scored with 22:12 remaining before Mimi Sullivan knocked in the game-winner just over a minute later.
Corkhill finished with nine saves for the Bullets. Caitlin Baro earned the win in goal for LVC, as she finished with seven saves.
Lebanon Valley finished with a 21-8 advantage in both shots and corners.
Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Sunday, when it hosts Haverford College at 1 p.m.
