GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Brendan Carroll scored on a header in the 93rd minute as Muhlenberg College rallied to beat Gettysburg 2-1 in a Centennial Conference men's soccer match Saturday evening at Clark Field.
After a foul gave Muhlenberg (4-2, 1-1 CC) the ball at midfield, Samuel Hayden served a ball into the top of the box, where Carroll lofted it over a charging goalie and into the back of the net.
Gettysburg (4-4, 1-1 CC) led 1-0 at halftime on the strength of sophomore Chris Bayon's (Langhorne, Pa./Lawrenceville School (N.J.)) team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 16th minute. Senior Pat Brown (Far Hills, N.J./Ridge) set up the goal with a rip off the top-left corner of the crossbar, and Bayon followed up with a cross-goal rebound inside the right post.
The Mules answered in the 48th minute, when Billy Dalton punched in a similar shot on a scramble. Muhlenberg out-shot the Bullets 11-6 in the second half, but sophomore keeper Adam Finkel(Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) came up with five saves in the period, including a diving, two-handed swat in the 53rd minute and a point-blank stop from the right post in the 67th minute.
Finkel tied a season-high with eight saves while Peter Bennett stopped two shots to earn the win in goal for Muhlenberg.
