Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Following a back and forth first half, Haverford College picked up a pair of second-half goals to get by Gettysburg College 2-0 in Centennial Conference women's soccer action at Clark Field on Saturday. The Bullets dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play on the season, while the Fords improved to 4-3, 1-0 CC.

The two squads jockeyed for position in the opening 20 minutes of the first half without gaining a clear advantage, although the visiting Fords managed five shots at the goal, one of which was smothered by Gettysburg goalie Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity).

After a flurry of substitutions, the Bullets gained some momentum as freshman Lauren Walsh (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) took a shot at the goal that was stopped by Haverford keeper Lindsay Festa. Just 30 seconds later, the hosts nearly reached the scoreboard following a corner kick, but Brett Howley's (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) header hit the bottom of the cross bar and Tara Gaston's (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) ensuing shot attempt was blocked by a Ford defender.

Haverford nearly reached the scoreboard late in the first half on a slicing shot from the left side, but St. Pierre dove to slap the attempt away, marking one of her five first-half saves. The two sides ended the opening stanza deadlocked at 0-0.

The Fords came out firing to start the second half, taking two shots in the opening minutes and eventually scoring in the 56th minute as Lauren Kibbe took a touch pass from Hannah Moreira, skirted around the keeper, and sent the shot into the right side of the net.

Kibbe added some insurance for the visitors in the 77th minute, nailing a low shot into the back of the net following a corner kick by Maura Schiefer, who picked up the assist.

Gettysburg managed a pair of second-half shots and was doubled up in shot attempts 16-8. The Bullets held the edge in corner kicks 5-3, while St. Pierre added a pair of saves in the final period to finish with seven for the match.

Gettysburg will aim to get back on track with another league contest against Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Clark Field beginning at 7 p.m.
