Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall scored three goals over the final 26 minutes and the undefeated and No. 16-ranked Diplomats topped Gettysburg 3-0 in a Centennial Conference men's soccer match Wednesday evening at Clark Field.
Charlie Welch gave F&M (9-0, 3-0 CC) all the scoring it would need when he headed in a Chris Walters indirect kick from the right wing in the 64th minute. Walters gave the Dips a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute with a straightaway shot from the top of the box, and Ryan McGonigle provided the finishing touches when he lofted a high-arching ball over the goalie from 30 yards out with just over a minute left.
The Diplomats held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots, but Gettysburg (4-5, 1-2 CC) had several golden scoring opportunities in the second half, missing three point-blank shots.
It was a tight game in the scoreless first half, when F&M out-shot the Bullets 9-7.
Zack Zamek totaled six saves to earn the shutout for F&M while junior Adam Finkel (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) stopped three shots for Gettysburg.
The Bullets return to the pitch on Saturday, when they visit Swarthmore College in another Centennial Conference match starting at 7 p.m.
