Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Nick Shattuck scored a game-high 25 points and host Ursinus College defeated Gettysburg 83-53 in a battle of the top two men's basketball teams in the Centennial Conference Saturday afternoon at Helfferich Hall.

Ursinus (13-2, 8-0 CC) never trailed after outscoring the Bullets 13-4 to start the game. The Bears, who swept their season series with Gettysburg, led 45-30 at the half and maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Ursinus shot 47.6% (10-for-21) from three-point range, with John Noonan going 4-for-7 from downtown en route to a 20-point game. Matt Hilton was 3-for-5 from distance while scoring 13 points while Michael Shema added 10 points for the Bears. Shattuck, who shot 11-for-15, and Noonan each pulled down eight rebounds while Remy Cousart led all players with eight assists.

Freshman forward Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and junior guard Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) scored 13 points apiece to lead Gettysburg (11-3, 6-2 CC), which maintains second place in the conference standings despite the loss. Freshman forward Kevin Kennedy (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) added 12 points while Powers grabbed nine rebounds.

The Bears led 26-13 midway through the opening half before a 7-0 Gettysburg run, fueled by five points from Powers, cut the deficit to six. However, Ursinus answered with a 6-2 spurt to push its lead back to double digits (32-22) with 6:37 on the clock, and the Bears extended their lead to 17 late in the half before a Powers put-back two seconds before the buzzer.

Powers opened the second half with a lay-up to reduce the deficit to 13, but that's as close as the Bullets would get. A Kennedy lay-up with 11:05 left made it 61-47, but Ursinus put the game away with a 10-0 run over the next three minutes.

Ursinus shot an even 50.0% for the game while holding the Bullets to 34.0% shooting, including 13.6% (3-for-22) from three-point range. The Bears held a 47-25 advantage on the glass.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, when it hosts Franklin & Marshall College at 8 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match-up.
