Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team suffered its first Centennial Conference defeat of the season on Wednesday as host Franklin & Marshall College converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to secure a 1-0 victory at North Campus Athletic Field. The setback dropped the Bullets to 2-1 in the conference and 3-2-3 overall.

In a statistically even match up, Franklin & Marshall (6-2-0, 2-1-0 CC) held a one-shot edge (5-4), while each team took two corner kicks. After coming up empty on their first four attempts, the Diplomats received the only scoring opportunity they would need when a Gettysburg defender committed a hand ball in the box. Danielle David converted the ensuing penalty kick at 81:59 for her first goal of the season.

Both of the Bullets' shot attempts in the opening stanza were turned away by Dip goalie Erin Roy – the first by junior Mary Peters (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day School) in the 11th minute and the second by freshman Sara Montague (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) in the 30th minute. Freshman Chloe Zeltmann (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) fired both of the visitor's shots wide of the mark in the final period, including the match's last attempt in the 85th minute following a corner kick.

Senior goalkeeper Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity) made a pair of second-half saves for Gettysburg in the loss.

The Bullets will aim to jump back into the win column this weekend as Ursinus College comes to town for a conference match at Clark Field. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
