SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Junior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored two goals as 16th-ranked Gettysburg inched closer to clinching a Centennial Conference playoff berth, defeating host Swarthmore College 4-0 in a conference match-up Saturday afternoon.

Gettysburg, which won its third game in a row and its fourth straight in Centennial Conference action, improved to 11-5. At 6-2 in conference play, the Bullets are third place in the conference standings with just two league contests remaining.

The Bullets registered a dominating performance, out-shooting Swarthmore (5-11, 1-7 CC) 24-2 and holding a 14-1 surplus in penalty corners.

Junior Vanessa Pabon (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) put the Bullets on the scoreboard midway through the opening half with an unassisted goal. Then just over three minutes later, Emala struck with her first goal, converting off a quick pass from junior Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich). Emala found paydirt again with 11:18 left in the period, scoring unassisted to make it a 3-0 game at the intermission.

The Bullets out-shot the Garnet 12-1 in the opening half.

Gettysburg added to its lead just over two minutes into the second half, as senior Jenn Amols (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) scored her third goal of the season off a pass from senior Savannah Ruth (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford). Gettysburg out-shot the Garnet 12-0 in the final stanza, but was unable to further increase its advantage.

Gina Grubb and Katie Ashmore combined to make 10 saves for Swarthmore while junior Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./The Calverton School) turned aside one shot while earning her sixth shutout of the season.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Dickinson College in a Centennial Conference game starting at 3 p.m.
